Sunday Quote - and Happy Mother's Day

Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.

Gulf thoughts

News coverage has swiftly moved on to the Times Square attempted bombing and the ridiculous way the airlines nearly let the suspect get away (you make my ten year old take off his shoes and empty his pockets, but you don't check the no fly list until after the plane heads out towards the runway?), and the usual news of greed, mayhem, and bad behavior in general, not to mention a strange obsession the news has with Lady Gaga (whose entire Madonna wannabe only not as much fun career leaves me feeling that I am too old for these times because I find her redundant and curiously dull)...and what about the Gulf? Hard to find a line of information about the BP teams trying to cap the well, the oil slicking out, the wildlife and coast, the dying sea turtles...well, the news media may have moved on, but many people I know are holding concern and heartache for the area uppermost in their minds and hope that the powers that be are putting every effort into trying to save the coast and the wildlife, people and creatures whose lives are so intertwined with the sea.

See the world spinning 'round...

Day after day, alone on a hill,
the man with the foolish grin is keeping perfectly still
but nobody wants to know him,
they can see that he's just a fool,
and he never gives an answer,
but the fool on the hill,
sees the sun going down, and the eyes in his head,
see the world spinning 'round.

Well on the way, head in a cloud,
the man of a thousand voices talking perfectly loud
but nobody ever hears him or the sound he appears to make,
and he never seems to notice,
but the fool on the hill sees the sun going down,
and the eyes in his head see the world spinning 'round.

I have always loved this song - when they get to the round and round and round part it makes me remember how it is as a kid on a swing when you lean your head far back and close your eyes and you are still swinging but nearly upside down, sunlight and shadow splashing light and dazzle through your closed eyelids...(and if I tried that now I would most definitely black out!).

Driving around Fernandino

It is a pleasure on trips to drive by homes and play at what it would be like to live in a pink house, to know that cat, to live in a mint green house, the big house nice but I like the little homey ones with signs of life - plants and bikes, ongoing projects and the stuff of everyday laying around the porch. Love the way they built the road around the tree - that's respect, people.

Grace upon waking

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Eight years goodbye

Some photographs from my Dad's Air Force days - to celebrate the man no longer here - but, oh, look at the snap in that walk as he and a buddy owned a street in St. Louis. :)

Books as comfort and aid

While catagorized as children's books, I have given both the Creech and the Ahlberg books as holiday gifts to adults because they are so worth reading. My Brother's Ghost remains, in my opinion, a nearly perfect book. All three of these books are here today because of Moky - who looked remarkably like Murphy the terrier featured in Alice Provensen's charming picture book, and had a nearly identical nature. The expressions of Murphy are so exactly Moky's, it is as if she knew our furry one. Books are many things, but in times of difficulty, they are also a great comfort.

Sad news

Our lovely, funny, feisty, irrepressible, wonderful friend and family member has passed on...he will be missed in our family more than we can say.
Thank you for being such a joy in our life, Moky.

Sunday Quote

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

struggling...

Moky having a hard time of it, not doing well at all. We are all walking around with our hearts in our hands, praying and hoping as the veternarian does what he can - our dogs are family to us and it is so hard to think that he doesn't know why he is away from us and sick...wishing I had Dr. Dolittle skills.

The wee dog

Our little dog, Moky, in vet hospital tonight, what seems to us as sudden onset of terrible illness turns out to be a long time coming diabetes...very upsetting - but he seems to be responding well to medication. Anyone out there have a dog with diabetes and good advice on what has worked well care-wise (besides the insulin and diet the vet will recommend)? Moky is seven and a half, a funny little feisty guy.

Happy Birthday to me!

and to the earth, I think, such green and blossoming things all of a sudden - I do enjoy being a spring babe. This morning, breakfast served by lovely husband - with flowers on the table, a rose on the breakfast tray, and then the dog boots on the carpet which all in all sums up life, does it not? A little fabulous, a little not so much, and we grow older and Spring comes yet again. A good day, lots of well-wishers and dear friends and family and now the lovely husband cooking dinner (hope the dogs behave this time).

Truckin'

Very cool old pick-up parked in Fernandino Beach, Florida... there were current plates but I liked that the owner had kept on the original Wyoming plates on his or her truck.
