It was worth the big fat tears rolling down my face, some allergy reacts to this explosion of Spring by giving me weepy eyes and a sinus headache. But standing underneath this huge Magnolia in the park - cannot tell you how heady the scent was. I felt like I was in a secret pink-petaled tree house, fallen petals beneath my feet and the wonderful gray knobby limbs like elephants kicking at the sky; how I love these gorgeous trees.
I didn't know they came in pink. How lovely! I have a white one in my yard which would bloom big white blooms if I'd water it a lot. You may be old enough to remember the late comedienne/ ventriloquist/ puppeteer Shari Lewis and her sheep hand puppet 'Hush Puppy.' Every time I encounter 'magnolia' in thought, word, or tree, it always reminds me of the way Hush Puppy said it with five syllables instead of four: Mag-ah-KNOW-lee-ah.
and I am most definitely old enough to remember Shari Lewis (and Captain Kangaroo!) but don't remember that particular bit. Nice to know her puppets liked magnolias :)
