the last of the crazy cakes

This year - doom for the three young men on vacation, boat sunk, stuck on a sugar cookie raft, the only land turns out to be a monstrous kraken and her ravenous babies...ah, yes, they always involve some sort of carnage or mayhem: invading martians, robots with world rule on their agenda, islands of oversized crabs, erupting parasitic critters, volcanos, superheroes, it's been a ride. He's 21 now and the cakes are done, crazier than the themes were the mess of a noncook, nonbaker with a dozen boxes of cake mix, food dye, and canned frosting galore. Happy Birthday, Chris.

I am a baker, but I've never made anything that wonderful! It is fantastic. And I love your words. Oh, and the header is amazing. Where is it?

Awesome, Susan! I bet your younger son loved it as well. :)

Thanks, all! The way you cut the cake? - in giant hunks for hungry young men! Only you have to be careful of a few wooden skewers holding it together.
The header was a shot of Mamaroneck, NY - getting out of my car to go to a Greg Brown concert and the sky was so beautiful - lucky me with a camera in my purse :)
