Manhattanville College a little after the fact this summer
It's a beautiful college campus, the Castle is the crown jewel, a building that combines a Hogwart's sensibility with someone's filthy rich at one time maiden aunt's mansion with a dusting of faded charm.
significant tree memory. Enjoyed both the deja vu and making new memories during Writer's Week this summer. A lot of history for me at this place as well.
a moment down a side road and the frogs chorus you into another world. A building tranformed and a new one built by Maya Lin of the Viet Nam Wall memorial fame.

Vermont
Back from a trek up to Vermont, beautiful as always even if unexpectedly and insanely hot. The sky is always perfect there.
We would not have survived without the swimming hole, the ice cold water and the way it cools you to and past your inner core.
And in the morning, the sun blazing through the trees like a visiting star.

Bunny chats
Early this morning I was having a small chat with the baby bunny who has been living in our back yard. How he has survived the foxes, the hunting cats, the coyotes, the hawks, and whatever other ill fate may befall bunnies is beyond me. Especially with this ladedah attitude in my front yard this morning. Drinking coffee and squinting out the window over the kitchen sink trying to determine if I was really seeing what I was seeing. Baby bunny stretched out in great comfort, facing the yard across the street where the mean cats live. I mean, are we just trying to tempt fate? Had to wander around and inform him that the expression "dumb bunny" seemed somewhat appropo. Shooing him into the back yard, the around the corner neighbor with his rather terrifying slavering dog passes by, dog pulling at the leash like a hellhound bent on munching bunny while my neighbor informs me he hates the rabbit. I nearly wondered if he was going to let the dog go. Well, I don't care if he eats all my basil, I announced, I love the bunny. Neighbor snorts, you're better than me. Bunny hopefully well hidden in back yard. But seriously bunny, stop eating my basil. It really annoys.

Greenhouse trekking
Great weekend jaunt with my botany inclined daughter a little bit ago. She took me to see the Green Valley Nursery in Hawthorne, NY, a beautiful nursery with a family farm feel to it, I love places like this that have real heart and soul.
I love greenhouses, like a mini trip to the Botanical gardens. I was also wanting someone's very nice jeep parked out front. There was an older gentleman sitting in a golf cart who was a family member and gave me great advice about planting. There was a really cute family dog and of course, the greenhouse cats, cannot be a proper greenhouse without greenhouse cats. ALso liked the other members of their menagerie.
We bought some lavender for the rock garden and a wee stone owl to guard the flowers in the front yard. Flowers, leaves, the smell of dirt, of distilled sun through the greenhouse glass, what could be more lovely on a weekend afternoon?
