Halloween draws to an end
Spending a morning with about twenty plus wee toddlers not a bad start to the holiday. Library power!

Edwidge Danticat
Was so happy to catch a reading at Manhattanville College by the brilliant writer, Edwidge Danticat. Every word she writes a measured perfection. In person, she is as warm and gracious as she is gifted.

The Edward Gorey Museum
We are big fans of his work. He had a macabre leaning but in a playful way and his art is just fantastic. Our second time there, the house offerings were sparser, someone mentioned a traveling show elsewhere, but it was still a pleasure.
It is both homey and silly and kitschy and respectful all at once
Also has a good gift shop tucked away :)
Comments
Presently Blogger is claiming I am not me. So while I am able to post here, I am unable to let recent (and very nice, thank you, Jenny) comments load.
Sigh.
Will try again later.

Cape Cod Bliss
Just back from a stay in one of my favorite places. Perfect way to wrap up summer and since this was a bit of a rough summer, it was all the sweeter.
Provincetown - where the Public Library has a Boat in the children's room (as every library should)...
Plus great views
Folks taking a dip off a small beach at the end of a street
A chicken outside the lovely Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters in Brewster where they also have an in house herbalist.
Just floating around
Our Tucker when he finally stopped biting at the sand and water long enough to feign a pensive pose.
More tomorrow...

New Poem Out
A new poem is up today at a favorite site, Woman Around Town. The poem, Backstory, had the honor of several of its lines chosen to ride around Norwalk, Connecticut on buses, along with bits of poems from other poets of all walks. Spearheaded by Norwalk's Poet Laureate, Laurel Peterson, these traveling poetry lines celebrated our national poetry month in April and can be viewed at the Norwalk Public Library 's website. A fun idea I was happy to be a part of - and now here is the poem in full below.
The poem is based on the structure of the Where I'm From poems created by Kentucky 's Poet Laureate George Ella Lyon which is a great teaching poem and writing tool. I taught this form in a workshop in Katonah, NY at their library and the results never fail to surprise and encourage new poets.
I hope you enjoy my version.

A Pause
Due to complications from hitting my head, I'll be on hiatus for a spell. Breathe in summer, breathe in light. Heal.

Wave Hill and Art
A nice jaunt to nearby Wave Hill in the Bronx yesterday.
Near their small but pleasant cafe, a large room that once entertained famous musicians and celebrities including Mark Twain.
Where we were fortunate enough to meet the artist, Joiri Minaya, as she was working on an installation of her piece entitled #dominicanwomengooglesearch, an interactive display (look her up, so interesting)
